Mount Clemens, Mich. – April 5, 2023 – Turning Point, an agency whose mission is to empower survivors of domestic violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking through comprehensive services and resources, is pleased to announce the new location of its popular resale shop, Second Hand Rose, at 36660 Southbound Gratiot in Clinton Township. The Macomb County Chamber of Commerce will host a ceremonial ribbon cutting at Second Hand Rose on Tuesday, April 25 at 10 a.m. The announcement was made by Turning Point CEO Sharman Davenport, Ph.D.
Previously located about two miles away in Mt. Clemens, the new, larger Second Hand Rose is approximately 14,000 square feet, with a more visible location ‘in the loop’ of popular thrift stores in the area. There’s something for everyone at Second Hand Rose and inventory includes clothing for all ages and sizes, as well as shoes, accessories and household items such as toasters, blenders, dishes and silverware. Survivors are able to shop at the store at no charge with a Turning Point voucher.
“Second Hand Rose is a vital resource for our survivors but is also a regular stop for community members and thrift shop fans,” Davenport said. “Its new home is welcoming and offers more space to allow for a greater selection of goods. Plus, we anticipate more foot traffic given its location among other thrift shops.”
Effective April 25th, after the ribbon cutting, Second Hand Rose will be open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and closed on Sundays. Donation hours are currently Monday and Thursday 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will be expanded to include daily donations from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and one Saturday per month. The store is staffed by both employees and dedicated volunteers and welcomes additional volunteers to help operations run successfully. This month’s opening of Second Hand Rose coincides with April’s designation as Sexual Assault Awareness month, which is an annual campaign to raise awareness about sexual violence by educating communities and individuals on its pervasiveness, while offering support, advocacy and learning opportunities on preventive measures.
